(Review Harry Potter #1)

“Pass the frying pan.”
“You’ve forgotten the magic word,” said Harry irritably.
The effect of this simple sentence on the rest of the family was incredible: Dudley gasped and fell off his chair with a crash that shook the whole kitchen; Mrs. Dursley gave a small scream and clapped her hands to her mouth; Mr. Dursley jumped to his feet, veins throbbing in his temples.
“I meant `please’!” said Harry quickly. “I didn’t mean -“
“WHAT HAVE I TOLD YOU,” thundered his uncle, spraying spit over the table, “ABOUT SAYING THE `M’ WORD IN OUR HOUSE?”

the chamber of secrets has been opened. enemies of the heir, beware.

“You read too much, Hermione,”

“Because that’s what Hermione does,” said Ron, shrugging. “When in doubt, go to the library.”

Malfoy, who had reached for the glass eye, said, “I thought you were going to buy me a present.”
“I said I would buy you a racing broom,” said his father, drumming his fingers on the counter.
“What’s the good of that if I’m not on the House team?” said Malfoy, looking sulky and bad-tempered. “Harry Potter got a Nimbus Two Thousand last year. Special permission from Dumbledore so he could play for Gryffindor. He’s not even that good, it’s just because he’s famous … famous for having a stupid scar on his forehead . . . .”
Malfoy bent down to examine a shelf full of skulls.
“. . . everyone thinks he’s so smart, wonderful Potter with his scar and his broomstick -“
“You have told me this at least a dozen times already,” said Mr. Malfoy, with a quelling look at his son. “And I would remind you that it is not – prudent – to appear less than fond of Harry Potter, not when most of our kind regard him as the hero who made the Dark Lord disappear –

“You’re just jealous,” piped up Colin, whose entire body was about as thick as Crabbe’s neck.
“Jealous?”said Malfoy, who didn’t need to shout anymore: half the courtyard was listening in. “Of what? I don’t want a foul scar right across my head, thanks. I don’t think getting your head cut open makes you that special, myself.”

“Saint Potter, the Mudbloods’ friend,” said Malfoy slowly. “He’s another one with no proper wizard feeling, or he wouldn’t go around with that jumped up Granger Mudblood. And people think he’s Slytherin’s heir!”

“However,” said Dumbledore, speaking very slowly and clearly so that none of them could miss a word, “you will find that I will only truly have left this school when none here are loyal to me… Help will always be given at Hogwarts to those who ask for it.”

“…. Yes, I think Dumbledore might have guessed… Dumbledore never seemed to like me as much as the other teachers did…”
“I bet Dumbledore saw right through you,”

“It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”

“Which goes to show that the best of us must sometimes eat our words,”

Tentunya berhubungan dengan The Chamber of Secrets melalui jalan yang terduga. Sedikit masa lalu Voldemort mulai terkuak, begitu pula rasa penasaran Harry akan masa lalunya, masa lalu Hagrid, dan bagian kecil masa lalu Dumbledore.

Review ini saya tutup dengan salah satu adegan favorit saya, dimana Hermione menyela pelajaran Sejarah Sihir Professor Binns dengan menanyakan sejarah The Chamber of Secrets.

“My subject is History of Magic,” he said in his dry, wheezy voice. “I deal with facts, Miss Granger, not myths and legends.” He cleared his throat with a small noise like chalk slipping and continued, “In September of that year, a subcommittee of Sardinian sorcerers —”
He stuttered to a halt. Hermione’s hand was waving in the air again.
“Miss Grant?”
“Please, sir, don’t legends always have a basis in fact?” Professor Binns was looking at her in such amazement, Harry was sure no student had ever interrupted him before, alive or dead.
